- Always get a written estimate and references. Ask to see finished jobs and call references.
- Always get a certificates of insurance for liability and workers compensation.
- If your home was built before 1978, it is likely that lead paint may be present. Be sure to hire only contractors who are certified by the EPA to do lead paint renovation, repair and painting (RRP). Ask to see the certificate.

- Get color samples before you commit to a color: inside or out.
- The lowest price contractor will provide the lowest quality job.
